Welcome to the SECOND of FIVE sessions in the JUNE SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS.
The research for Making Thinking Visible comes out of Project Zero (PZ) and Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). The research produced a collection of Thinking Routines designed to guide learners’ thought processes and build new brain patterns known as habits of mind.
The Thinking Routines are short, easy-to-learn mini-strategies that extend and deepen students’ thinking and become part of the everyday fabric in any learning environment. Thinking Routines are essential POWER TOOLS for rigorous remote teaching and learning, contributing to effective collaboration, formative assessment and feedback.
Applicable for any age level, you can start using the routines immediately in the classroom and in remote teaching.
In this second session, we will practice two routines: CLAIM SUPPORT QUESTION & WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT? These routines are two of the nine « core routines » identified by Project Zero that we will explore this week.
Upcoming sessions include:
– June 17 Thinking Routines: CIRCLE OF VIEWPOINTS & CONNECT EXTEND CHALLENGE
– June 18 Thinking Routines: COMPASS POINTS & THINK PAIR SHARE
– June 19 Thinking Routines: THINK PUZZLE EXPLORE & I USED TO THINK NOW I THINK
